The new National Ice Sports Centre has now opened in Melbourne, Australia. Located in the exciting Icehouse, part of the Docklands / Waterfront City development, the new venue contains two IIHF-sized ice rinks, stadium seating for up to 1,000 people, and a specialist winter sports gym. This is assuredly the premier winter sport facility in all of Australia.
It was with great pleasure and pride that Sport Systems Unlimited learned of being chosen as the supplier of dasher boards for both rinks. The client chose the CrystaPlex™ 6A Series seamless glass hockey boards in the main rink, and the 6A system without shielding for the leisure rink.
Sport Systems Unlimited’s CEO Adam Pender commented, “Words can hardly describe how thrilled we are to have had the opportunity to be involved in the creation of something that ends up being by far best in class. I can’t wait – and my wife, who was raised in Australia also can’t wait – to come and see it in person!”
NISC is the new official home to Ice Sports Victoria, an organisation funded by the Victorian State Government and Sport and Recreation, which represents the four ice sports that will call the Icehouse home: Ice Hockey Victoria, Ice Skating Victoria (figure skating), Victorian Ice Racing Association (speed skating) and the Victorian Curling Association. Ice Sports Victoria are responsible for developing programs that promote ice sports to Victorian communities through schools, training and education.
